ABOUT THE CHOREOGRAPHERS

CHAVIA BLANKENSHIP (Just A Taste)

ROUND 1: 4:00PM

Born and raised in San Diego,Ca., Chavia made his big move out to the Big Apple just one year ago. But before his move, Chavia had been dancing all along the West Coast for 10 years. Known for his funky, creative, high energy style, Chavia is always one to make sure that everyone is having fun while dancing. He is inspired and moved by the simple things in life, and found ways of incorporating that into his dancing. Chavia has danced within both the competitive circut and apart of a professional companies. The teams that Chavia has been in are; AXS, Formality, Funkanometry San Diego, and Culture Shock San Diego. He has also choreographed for Formality, Funkanometry San Diego, and some high school teams; Kinections, I.D.K., MPULSE, and In-Trace. Soon after his arrival in New York, Chavia was already choreographing, teaching workshops, and performing. DynamiQ Faction was his first New York team. He has also participated in CARNIVAL: NEW YORK 2009 with Dennis Caindec’s Project and Sirens 2010. Some of his dance highlights are opening up for Ashlee Simpson at Club Sea World, Teen Vogue: Justin Timberlake, and Carnival NYC 2009. Chavia would like to acknowledge his family and close friends back in San Diego for all of their unconditional love, support, and inspiration.

SAMANTHA YU (Static Noyze)

ROUND 2: 5:00PM

Samantha Yu stumbled across dance when she joined her school’s group with her best friend at the age of 8. The plan had been to use their experience to achieve their ultimate goal… teaching a routine as an activity at Kaorina’s 9th birthday party! After that, they would leave the team they had no more use for. But after her first rehearsal, she knew she would never be able to stop dancing. Since then she has trained in multiple styles including jazz, tap, modern, ballet, contemporary, and hip hop. After completing her sophomore year at Harvard College, she is currently taking a year off to focus on her passion for dance – performing with Static Noyze Dance Company and WRUSH Dance Crew, and training as much as she can. She would like to thank FR3SH for their invitation to teach in New Jersey – an opportunity for which she is incredibly excited. She can’t wait to meet and dance with as many people as possible!

STEVEN HOM (RAPS Dance Troupe)

ROUND 3: 6:00PM

Steven Hom’s humble beginnings started at the age of 16 with the crew Nuisance. It was there that he first discovered and learned how to breakdance and battle from fellow crew members, as well as through self-teaching. He proceeded to attend b-boy sessions and gained knowledge from other breakdancers to improve on his craft. After four years of b-boying, he was introduced to hip-hop choreography and freestyling when he joined SERCisCompany and STFU Crew. Striving to grow as a dancer and broaden his horizons, Steve later joined and currently dances with Point Blank (Philly’s Best Dance Crew) and Raps Dance Troupe, and has contributed choreography to both teams. He has also participated in competitions/shows such as, Prelude EC Dance Competition and World of Dance (NY), as well as many shows within the east coast hip-hop community. After almost three years of improving his skills through dancing with various groups, freestyling, and self-teaching, Steve aspires to reach a level where he can inspire others just as others have done for him.
